TRA ENDORSING CONVENTION PRESS RELEASE
Nashville, TN: The Tennessee Republican Assembly held their biennial Endorsing Convention Saturday, July 9th, 2016 to endorse state level candidates who support TRA’s guiding principles of conservatism, as well as the US and TN State Constitutions.
All Republican non-incumbent, as well as incumbent candidates with a clear conservative voting record on issues important to the Tennessee Republican Assembly (TRA), were mailed questionnaires regarding the issues of personal rights, abortion, tax structure, gun rights, education, and illegal immigration. The questionnaires were scored independently by select members of the organization and a selection of candidates was submitted for consideration by the entire body of the TRA.
The following state level Incumbent candidates were approved for endorsement:
- State Representative Teri Lynn Weaver, District 40
- State Representative Courtney Rogers, District 45
- State Representative Mark Pody, District 46
- State Representative Judd Matheny, District 47
- State Representative Sheila Butt, District 64
- State Representative Jay D. Reedy, District 74
- State Representative Andy Holt, District 76
The following state level Non-Incumbent candidates were approved for endorsement by the TRA:

- Steve Lane, Candidate for Senate, District 14

TRA President Sharon Ford stated, “It is our privilege to endorse these candidates in the 2016 election cycle. Each one has been vetted and carefully considered by our members before we voted to endorse them. We look forward to supporting each of them in their campaign and working with those who are elected.“ Ford has served as the president of TRA for 4 years and also served as the chairman of the National Republican Assemblies Convention held in Nashville last summer in which the presumptive Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump attended as a guest speaker.
The Tennessee Republican Assembly (TRA) is chartered by the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) and is a socially, morally, and fiscally conservative group of individuals committed to strengthening the Republican party by upholding the traditional Republican ideals that represent the American founders’ original intent.
